Intro to Sport Leading

Whether you are a seasoned toproper or finished taking our Intro to Toprope, this class will teach you the fundamentals to get started leading outside. Topics covered will be: belay devices and safe operation, communication/commands, proper quickdraw clipping techniques, anchors, and cleaning a toprope anchor. Quickdraws not required. This class will consist of one quarter day for Ground School in Seattle and the next full day at a local crag outside (most likely Exit 38 or 32 off I-90).

Prerequisites

  • Introduction to Toprope class taken from Climbers of Color

  • Able to top rope a 5.8 clean

OR

  • Able to top rope a 5.8 clean

  • Knowledge of how to use a belay device for top rope belaying

  • Knows how to tie oneself in to the rope for climbing

  • Can perform safety checks before climbing

Dates

  • Saturday June 22 1pm-4:30pm and Sunday June 23 8am-2pm

  • Friday August 2 5:30pm-9pm and Saturday August 3 8am-2pm

Tuition

$180 - 220  (sliding scale, scholarships available)
